Privacy

Your writing stays on your computer. If you make an account, we keep only what an account needs, and we never sell any of it.

1. This website

No analytics, no advertising and no tracking cookies. Your browser remembers a few choices for you (the theme you picked on the Amanuenses page, and that a loading screen has played), and those stay in your browser.

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, it keeps short-lived technical logs (your IP address, the page asked for, the time) to keep the site running and safe from attacks. We do not use them to follow anyone.

2. Amanuenses, in your browser

What you write is kept in your browser and in a folder you choose on your own computer. It is not sent to us, and there is no server of ours holding your books, with an account or without one. We cannot read them.

We never take your writing, and we never take your data. Even where you give Amanuenses permission to reach something of yours — a folder, or later your Google Drive — it is used only for your books and stories, to open and save them for you, and for nothing else: not read by us, not studied, not sold, and never used to train anything.

3. An account (if you make one)

You can use Amanuenses without an account. If you sign in, with Google, we keep:

• your name and email, as your Google account gives them to us;
• which Google accounts you have joined to yours (Google’s own number for each, never your password, which we never see);
• your preferences (the look of your profile and of the Amanuenses page, the picture you chose from ours, any pen names you add, and whether you want an email when something new comes);
• what you have paid us and what that gives you (see §4);
• a short history of what happened to your account: when it was made, when a login was joined, when you changed a setting.

One cookie keeps you signed in, for 30 days at most; it holds only a signed note of which account you are. We use your email to answer you and, only if you ask for it, to tell you something new — never for advertising.

4. Payments and support

When you buy us a coffee, the payment is handled by Buy Me a Coffee (and its payment processor). It tells us the amount, your email, and your name and message if you chose to leave them, and we keep that record. If the email matches an account, the payment is joined to it. We never see your card or bank details.

5. Where it is kept, and who else sees it

• The accounts are kept in a database run by Supabase, in Mumbai, India, reached only through our own service on Cloudflare.
• Copies, for safety: a nightly copy on our own computer, and a private Google Sheet in our own Google account. Neither is shared with anyone.
• Google confirms who you are when you sign in. Buy Me a Coffee handles coffees.

Nobody else, except when the law requires it. We do not sell or rent anything.

6. How long

As long as you keep your account. When you delete it, your account, the logins joined to it, your settings and your history are removed at once, and gone from our copies within 30 days. A payment record stays, without your name or email, because the law asks us to keep the books.

7. Your rights

In your account you can see and correct your details, download everything we hold about you, and delete your account. You can also write to [email protected] for any of these, or to complain if you think we got something wrong; we answer within 30 days. We are in Patiala, Punjab, India.

8. Children

Accounts are not meant for children under 18. If you think a child has made one, write to us and we will delete it.
